The central idea of the paper suggests that the psychological
relationship each person has with the imagination is similar in quality to
attachment link with the human objects.
Just as in the interpersonal relationship, the attachment to the imagination
could be of a secure type, expecting that the imagination will be hospitable and
of help towards his emotional needs; or could be of an insecure type
anticipating that the imagination will be hostile and adverse to his needs.
Based on the attachment theory it is suggested that the quality of the
attachment develops from the nature of the early relationship with the
maternal figure and it is later generalized to the relationship with one’s own
imagination.
The essay includes an illustration of the close interrelationship between
the imagination and creative play.
